BBBs REGENERATION GROUP VISITS HASWELL MENCAP CENTRE.

There have now been two visits to Haswell by Burbank Residents keen to see how a bespoke and volunteer run super-centre works. Residents have been delighted to be shown around a building that has become a reality for residents in Haswell. The centre has a cafe and media suite, a charity gift shop, admin rooms, a huge second hand furniture, clothes, books, records etc facility and large rooms for Hobby activities. The centre is not disimilar to what Residents feel they need in Burbank to adequately provide for the needs of the whole Burbank Community.

SPONSORED WALK for BURBANK's REGENERATION FUND

Members of the Burbank Regeneration Group and The Burbank Mens Club completed a 6.5 mile sponsored walk from Billingham to Burbank in Hartlepool recently and raised just over £400.00 for the Burbank Regeneration Fund.

After many years of lobbying for a new supermarket to be built on Burbank, plans have finally been passed for a new ALDI Store to be built in Clark Street / Stranton Road next to the Sorting Office. Top Management from ALDI did an exhibition of their produce and plans on 13^th March 2009 by way of an open afternoon inviting residents to ask any questions or raise any problems.

The final council planning committee met on Wednesday 25^th March whereby plans, including any amendments from recent presentations from the public were taken into account and the scheme given the final go ahead. The new store could be open within a year.

FOOD BAGS ARE A REAL SUCCESS!

The BBBs COOP SHOP is now included in the Hartlepool Fruit & Veg Bag Scheme. Burbankers are 'eating their way to health' on a healthy balanced diet of fresh Fruit and Veg provided in weekly bags for £2.80 per bag, and free range eggs at £1.75 per dozen. The bags have been a real success and the scheme was introduced to the Burbank COOP Shop via Kim Baines (HBC).

A NEW SUPERCENTRE FOR BURBANK !!

The Burbank Community Forum is forming a Steering Group to look at New Build OR into Renovating and /or extending buildings such as The Havelock Centre and The Burbank Community Centre a NEW all in one Supercentre for All !!

The BBB's (standing for 'Building a Better Burbank') Team is open to the Chairs of residents groups like BURT, BURBANK COOP SHOP, BURBANK MEN’S CLUB etc and seeks to work together as and when required, to develop the regenerational projects suggested by the Morrish Report.(< LINK aside)

Councillors and Forum Reps have an open invitation to BBBs meetings which take place from time to time when the need arises. BBBs is the place where the lobby for a new Super Centre began to take place in liaison with the Council and Housing Provider's Regeneration Teams through The Burbank Community Forum.

Offers of support and help on certain aspects of the project have been indicated from both Housing Hartlepool AND Three Rivers Housing, the two main Housing Associations with properties on Burbank Estate and the town's Mayor and MP who are all keen to get the NEW Supercentre on the Burbank Estate.

Dialogue with Residents continues to take place on issues such as the development of the new Commemorative Garden as to what should be included about the history of the Old Town and maybe what should not.

Paul Nugent - WebMaster of BBBSLIVE said, "This is no easy task and may take years to accomplish but with the support that Residents are seemingly giving, the BBBs Team believe it all can and will happen. All proposals for any regenerative plans for the Burbank Area should rightly be put to ALL the residents in our area in future with FULL transparency and accountability. I believe it is the wish of Burbankers to better their quality of life in ways which 'they' feel are right for 'them' and for future generations of Burbank, and imposing unwanted projects on our valuable land should now be a thing of the past. As our MP said, it's time that Burbank got the Centre and facilities it deserves. We ALL need to work together towards that aim." The BBBs Team will facilitate any outside offers of support on this venture and deal with any concerns by putting them forward to our meetings. TOWN WALL FINALLY DEMOLISHED !

On 27th June 2008 most of the Old Town town wall which has stood for at least 100 years was torn down. A lone bulldozer wiped out this part of Burbank's heritage in less than half a day. Some of the stones are hopefully going to be recovered, to help build a small replica of the wall & the Plumb Pudding Arch on the opposite side of the road as part of a Memorial Garden to those of Old Town who died in the Bombardment in WW1.

The garden and arch will form a Gateway into the Burbank Area as a Culture & Heritage Project thro the 'NEW' BBBs Regeneration Group.
